The Chauvin Arnoux CA8436 Power Quality Analyser can be used to investigate the quality of an industrial or administrative building’s main electrical network. This instrument includes five voltage inputs and four current inputs that can be colour coded using the included identification rings.

Additionally, the Chauvin Arnoux CA8436 Qualistar+ Power Quality Analyser has been optimised for indoor and outdoor use in a variety of challenging environments. As such, it is IP67 certified and is therefore suitable for use in the rain. This instrument is ideal for use in factories and production workshops as its robust, waterproof design protects it from projections of solids or liquids. Furthermore, it is self-powered by phase from 100V to 1000V AC/DC allowing it to be used in a variety of locations.

The Chauvin Arnoux CA8436 Qualistar+ Power Quality Analyser is also compliant with 600V CAT IV and 1000V CAT III as well as IEC 61010. It includes all the necessary features and functions required for comprehensively diagnosing electrical installations and can be used to measure voltage, current and power parameters. It can be used to determine the energy efficiency of an electrical installation. The Chauvin Arnoux CA8436 Qualistar+ Power Quality Analyser is able to perform the following tests and checks on any type of installation including Aron and three-phase:

  • Calculation of distorting power
  • Calculation of distorting voltages
  • Calculation of distorting currents
  • Real-time display of waveforms (four voltages and four currents)
  • Half-period RMS measurements of voltages and currents
  • Measure, calculate and display harmonics up to the 50th order
  • Measure total and per phase P, N, Q1, S and D power values
  • Total and per phase energy measurement
  • K factor and FHL calculation
  • Calculation of cos ɸ displacement power factor (DPF) and the power factor (PF)
  • Calculation of Pst (short-term flicker measured over ten minutes)
  • Calculation of Plt flicker values (long-term flicker measured over two hours)
  • Current and voltage unbalance calculation
  • Monitor the electrical network with the setting of alarms

The user is able to capture, view and record parameters, transients, alarms and waveforms simultaneously. Measurements are displayed in real-time via the wide, colour, TFT display Via the display the user is also able to view a phasor diagram.

Moreover, the design of the Chauvin Arnoux CA8436 Qualistar+ Power Quality Analyser provides direct, quick access to the main measurements, such as harmonics and flicker, as well as the main functions. The Chauvin Arnoux CA8436 Qualistar+ Power Quality Analyser includes the following functions.

Inrush

The user needs only select the acquisition mode, RMS or peak, and the Chauvin Arnoux CA8436 Qualistar+ Power Quality Analyser will measure the maximum input current draw of the connected electrical item over a period of ten minutes. This function is useful for sizing the electrical installation and viewing the source of switching faults.

Flicker

As mentioned above both long-term (Plt) and short-term (Pst) flicker can be measured.

Energy

The user presses the start- and stop-keys to begin and end this test; he/she is able to choose between a variety of measurement units including kW, Joule, nuclear-toe, non-nuclear toe and BTU.

K-Factor

This function is compliant with NF EN 50464-3 and allows the user to ascertain a transformer’s derating. It simultaneously records and measures FHL and European K factor parameters.

Harmonics

This function has been expanded to ensure that harmonics can be calculated in %f and %r. This function also allows the user to determine the decomposition of the harmonics of a neutral conductor, as well as the distorting voltages and currents. Global THD, U, I, V, VA and phase offset of harmonics are all measured using this mode.

Distorting Power

This NEW function allows the user to determine:

  • The deforming power (D) for sizing the anti-harmonic filters
  • The reactive power (Q1) linked to the phase shift of the fundamental this can be used to size the capacitor bank facilitating power phase correction
  • The installation’s total reactive power (N)

In addition to the above functions, the Chauvin Arnoux CA8436 Qualistar+ Power Quality Analyser also includes the following modes.

Alarm

The user is able to program the Chauvin Arnoux CA8436 Qualistar+ Power Quality Analyser to include up to forty alarms. The thresholds of these alarms can be configured and monitored as can the alarm end dates. Each time a threshold is breached the analyser will record this event with a date and time stamp.

Recording

The recording period and storage rate are user-programmable. The user is able to record over 450 values with all the necessary parameters and graphic displays.

This mode has been improved to facilitate immediate recording once the instrument has been programmed. It will also automatically indicate the minimum and maximum values detected.

Transient

This mode can be used to capture hundreds of transients spanning several tens of µs. This mode will also record voltages and currents which breach the programmed thresholds.

The Chauvin Arnoux CA8436 Qualistar+ Power Quality Analyser can be used in several modes simultaneously. Information acquired during measurement campaigns can be viewed in real-time as well as exported to a PC via a USB connection. He/she may also take screenshots of the display which are saved to the Chauvin Arnoux CA8436 Qualistar+ Power Quality Analyser’s memory along with the date and time. When used with the included software the user is able to communicate with his/her PC in real-time, as well as record and export data to this software.

The Screenshot and Help functions are accessible via the front panel. The Help function can be accessed at any stage of the measurement process, ensuring that Chauvin Arnoux CA8436 Qualistar+ Power Quality Analyser can be operated easily and correctly thereby providing accurate and relevant results.

Further to this, the Chauvin Arnoux CA8436 Qualistar+ Power Quality Analyser features an intuitive, easy-to-use menu that can be programmed to appear in the language of the user’s choice. He/she may also configure the analyser’s date, time, network and display colour and contrast.

Also adding to this instrument’s practicality is its ability to recognise current sensors automatically, as well as automatically set the parameters for EN 50160 reports.

Finally, this instrument’s DC components are all integrated and it is supplied with a foldaway stand ensuring that it can is able to remain stable and easy to use and see throughout the measurement period.

The Chauvin Arnoux CA8436 Qualistar+ Power Quality Analyser is a comprehensive, adaptable, easy-to-use and robust power quality analyser suitable for indoor and outdoor industrial settings.
